Abstract:Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are the energy conversion devices with ultrahigh efficiency, zero emission, and high flexibility of the fuel supplies. This study has optimized growth variables of the aligned carbon nanotubes (ACNT) and evaluation of PEMFC performance. From our study, it can be seen that the PEMFC performance reaches 2500 mA/cm2 and 720 mW/cm2 when the Pt loading with O2 and H2 flowing into the fuel cell. Highly arrayed nanostructure and hydrophobicity of ACNT enhanced the PEMFC behavior and durability. Elemental composition analyses indicate that Pt loading was significantly decreased to 2.25 mass %.
