Abstract:Solid phase synthesis technique of nano carbon has reached a significant milestone in achieving short tube length in the range of 100nm. This achievement was obtained with a) specific solid carbon source (CS) having small scale micro fibril structure from tropical plants b) unique tube control agent (TCA) from natural source c) baking temperature range greater than 900C . It should be noted that the carbon nano tube products achieved from catalytic growth process using gas phase carbon source always show long tube in the range of several hundred micro to several mm no matter how the reaction time can be reduced in the possible condition of experiment. These long tube products needed to be shortened with E-beam or X-ray. The short tube products in the present study are obtained through the process and no further needs for tube shortening. Recently, the increased interest in short carbon nano tubes seems to be associated with the increased demand for better compatibility for successful CNT composite technology.
