Welcome! The Department of Chemistry at The University of Alabama offers degrees in chemistry at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels. We are a growing program with 22 faculty and approximately 80 graduate students. Research and teaching are conducted in the major disciplines of chemistry: analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistries and biochemistry. In addition, Chemistry faculty actively participate in interdisciplinary scientific research programs involving synthesis, the chemistry of materials, biological chemistry, and environmental chemistry.

The Chemistry Department is located in the recently completed Shelby Interdisciplinary Science Building, or Shelby Hall. Shelby Hall, which was completed in spring 2004, is one of the most modern science buildings in the Southeast. With over 200,000 square feet of research, classroom, and administration space, Shelby Hall provides a home for a variety of interdisciplinary research programs as well as the Chemistry Department. We invite you to take a virtual tour of Shelby Hall.

We invite you to explore these pages to learn more about our graduate and undergraduate programs. A more detailed description of our program, as well as up to date information, can be found on the Chemistry Department web site.
